Quick answer

Norway’s flag is a 16:22 red rectangle with a dark-blue Nordic cross bordered in white. Its construction uses the sequence 6:1:2:1:6 vertically and 6:1:2:1:12 horizontally.

Specification

The flag regulation describes a deep-red field divided into four rectangles by a dark-blue cross separated from the red by a white border. The two red fields at the hoist are six-unit squares; the two fly fields are twelve units long.

Construction notes

Draw the white cross first at four units wide, then center a two-unit blue cross over it. This leaves a one-unit white border along each side. The cross center lies eight units from the hoist and eight units from the upper edge.

Historical record

Fredrik Meltzer designed the flag, and the Storting adopted it on 17 May 1821. The current legal framework rests on the Flag Act of 1898 and its associated regulation, which defines the proportions used in this record.

Interpreting the display colors

The listed HEX values—red #BA0C2F, dark blue #00205B and white #FFFFFF—are screen representations. The supplied specification describes the colors verbally as deep red, dark blue and white. These display values are not certified textile standards and do not establish customary manufacturing colors or Pantone, CMYK or other production equivalents.

Scope of the historical and construction evidence

The imported record attributes the design to Fredrik Meltzer and states that the Storting adopted it on 17 May 1821. These historical claims are retained as imported claims. They are distinct from the record’s reference to the 1898 legal framework and its account of proportional construction; geometry evidence does not independently establish the designer attribution or adoption date.

The existing ministry citation has only the generic locator “Source link preserved from legacy content.” Reusing it for the construction table preserves the source trail without implying that claim-specific passages have been verified. Once the relevant passages are verified, add separate citations with precise locators for the designer attribution, adoption claim, legal framework and construction dimensions. The imported section and original citation remain preserved.
